THE number of new confirmed coronavirus cases in Warrington has more than quadrupled in the space of a week.

This is according to the latest data released by Public Health England and published on the Government's online coronavirus dashboard.

There were 25 new cases in the borough in the seven-day period between August 1 and August 7 at a rate of 11.9 new cases per 100,000 people.

This demonstrates a significant rise compared with data for the week previous, July 25 to July 31, in which Warrington had six new cases at a rate of 2.9 per 100,000 people.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories, pillar one of the Government's testing programme, and in the wider community, pillar two.

Data for the most recent three days, August 8 to August 10, has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.

The highest rate in England is in Pendle, where the new case rate has jumped from 44.5 in the seven days to July 31 to 96.6 in the seven days to August 7. A total of 89 new cases have been recorded.

In Oldham, the rate has risen from 60.3 to 87.7, with 208 new cases.

Here is the list in full, which reads: the rate of new cases in the seven days to August 7; the number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to August 7; the rate of new cases in the seven days to July 31; the number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to July 31.
