A NEW book to lift the lid on the unique heritage of Lymm has been published to help a vital centre hit by Covid-19.

The team at Lymm Heritage Centre have been working hard over the past few months during lockdown to come up with new and exciting ways to explore Lymm’s unique heritage while also finding creative ways to ensure the centre is able to stay on its feet financially.

The Lymm Time Traveller’s Handbook is the fifth publication by Lymm author and amateur historian Alan Williams, produced on behalf of the centre.

But it is a complete break in style and content from his previous books.

Alan said: “When we looked at how to produce an interactive trail with challenges and activities our first thought was to produce an app.

“But the more we talked to people the more we discovered that folk actually like to have something to hold onto and to dip onto.

“The Handbook is also a lasting record of a great adventure trip out.”

As well as being packed with stories and pictures the three mile trail also contains a quiz that can only be answered by following the trail.

Back at the centre there is even a prize for everyone who completes the challenge.

As an added bonus the book contains links to fifteen short location-specific videos that add to the time travel experience.

  •  The Time Traveller’s Handbook is available at Lymm Post Office, Ruby and Harry’s on Bridgewater Street and the centre itself which is open from 1pm to 5pm Thursday to Sunday.

It is also available via the website at lymmhic.co.uk.

You can also explore the history of Lymm through the centre’s digital archive site – thelymmarchive.co.uk which contains thousands of images and documents relating to Lymm’s past.
