COULD Gareth Widdop's Warrington Wolves career be cut short?

Reports have emerged in the Australian media linking the England international half-back, who is in the first season of a marquee three-year deal with The Wire, with a return to former club St George Illawarra Dragons.

The Daily Telegraph claims Widdop has reached out to the Dragons about a potential return to Australia next season.

It also moots a direct swap deal that would bring St George's Corey Norman – the Queensland half-back who has fallen out of favour with the Dragons this season – to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Warrington are said to be "lukewarm" about the idea of swapping Widdop for Norman, according to the report.

After an ankle injury forced him out of the first two rounds of the Super League season, Widdop has made five Wolves appearances and scored three tries.
