PRIMARY schools in Warrington have used the power of sport to help create fun educational resources for children across the UK.

The Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) Education Programme takes the tournament’s values and core principles into the classroom as an educational tool for primary school children.

Designed by teachers for teachers, the resources will help people to devise and deliver themed lessons surrounding the cultural and geographical scope of the rugby tournament.

Oakwood Avenue, Gorse Covert, Woolston Community and Croft Primary Schools worked with RLWC2021 organisers to create the unique resources.

Joanne Reilly, head teacher at Oakwood Avenue Community Primary School, explained: "When we were first commissioned to write the resources for the Rugby League World Cup 2021, we bought into their vision immediately and aimed to create resources like no other major sporting event had done.

"They are underpinned by the four values of being bold and brave, authentic, world-class and inclusive.

"We are proud of the work our teachers have done to create unprecedented resources during unprecedented times.

"We hope educators enjoy using them as much as we did in creating them."

The curriculum-linked resources will be available across the country to download from today, Wednesday, as teachers plan for the return of schools in September.

Those schools which signed up will have access to ticket offers and competitions to win World Cup prizes, including trophy visits, ambassador visits, and World Cup memorabilia.

Tracy Power, legacy director of RLWC2021, explained: "This is a perfect example of bringing our tournament strapline of 'the power of together' to life through this exciting schools programme.

"By harnessing the inspirational nature of RLWC2021 with schools and children across England, we can now deliver a project which can showcase rugby league as a force for good in our core communities."

RLWC2021 will work with One Community Trust to deliver the project.
