A PUB which has been named among the best in the country is set to expand with a new takeaway service and delicatessen.

The Church Green in Lymm was last year named by the Times as one of the best in Britain for the summer season and made the AA Restaurant Guide 2020.

Now its owner, celebrity chef Aiden Byrne, is looking to convert a storage unit at the front of the gastropub into an area for the sales of takeaway food and drink – as well as a deli.

Including in the offering will be breakfast items, pastries, pies, sandwiches, charcuterie and cheeses.

Hot drinks and alcoholic beverages will also be on sale.

An application for planning permission for the scheme has been submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

Submission documents stated: “The proprietor of the Church Green has been asked to put his name to other establishments in the north west, but is now focused on this enterprise and the increasing focus on the quality food and drink offer in Lymm.

“It is anticipated that the server created would enable the sale of sandwiches and rolls, ice creams and similar products together with beverages throughout the day, focussed on walkers and visitors to Lymm Dam and surrounding footpaths and cycle routes.

“The facility would also focus on the sale of gourmet pies and pre-prepared versions of menu items sold from the main operation.

“Products which are complimentary to the food offer would be available for sale.

“This would include side orders, relishes and selected wines, and the retail operation would provide charcuterie and similar items – including local produce.

“In order to meet the requirements of varied clientele across the day, the facility would be open for early morning coffee and breakfast items from 7am with takeaway dinner orders finishing at 7pm.”
