ROAD closures will be in place around the town centre this weekend amid protests centred around the Black Lives Matter movement.
Sankey Street, Scotland Road, Winwick Street, Tanners Lane, Froghall Lane and Crosfield Street will be closed to all traffic between 1pm and 3.30pm on Saturday, June 20.
This is due to a Black Lives Matter protests, which will see demonstrators march through the town centre.
The procession is due to set off from Warrington Town Hall at 2pm, and organisers say that social distancing measures will be in place.
Any vehicles breaching the road closures are liable to be fined up to £400.
Meanwhile, the Protect Warrington Cenotaph Group is planning to gather by the war memorial on Bridge Foot at the same time.
Around 100 residents attended a first peaceful BLM demonstration at the Town Hall earlier this month.
Participants silently ‘took the knee’ for eight minutes following the death of George Floyd in the USA.
He was killed last month in Minnesota after a police officer knelt on his neck for eight minutes.
Similar protests have been held around the UK in recent weeks.
