THIS week's obituary page of the Warrington Guardian paid tribute to a stalwart of Woolston who was as well known for being on the parish council as he was calling bingo.
ARTHUR Cyril Edward Robinson, husband of the late Jean Robinson, died on March 20, aged 84.
Mr Robinson was born in Latchford and lived in Woolston for 56 years.
He did national service with the REME before working Radiation/TI New World; CJ Newtons; Lockers/ APW and Brindley Chains
He was father to Steven, Ann and Ian he was granddad to 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr Robinson served his community for almost 60 years as a Woolston parish councillor, a school governor, and a community representative on various crime, health and wellbeing groups. He was made a Freeman of the Parish in 1994.
He was proud of his contribution to the growth of Woolston as a place where families could live, work and play.
Arthur was well known as a bingo caller for more than 40 years including at Woolston Leisure Centre, Monks Social Club and Thames Board Club.
Arthur attended Woolston Mission and then the Church of Ascension.
He loved his garden and successfully attracted a range of wildlife which he enjoyed to feed and watch.
He was a lifelong Wires fan.
His funeral took place on April 2 at Walton Lea Crematorium
Rev Rebecca Roberts, from Woolston's Church of the Ascension, officiated.
