VANDALS destroyed fencing on a bridge with a petrol-powered saw in the early hours of this morning.
Residents in Sankey Bridges were awoken by a ‘very load noise which sounded like a saw’ at around 3am today, Thursday.
Cheshire Police have confirmed that they were called to the footbridge over Sankey Brook, off Evelyn Street, shortly before 3.15am after reports of a man causing damage to the fence.
The area was ‘flooded’ with police, who reportedly spent two hours searching for the culprit in Sankey Valley Park.
But officers were unsuccessful in locating the suspect and the force’s enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
It is understood that the man spent roughly 20 minutes damaging the fencing using a petrol saw.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 3.11am on Thursday, March 19, police were called to reports of a man causing damage to a fence near to Sankey Valley Park.
“Officers made a thorough search of the area and did not locate the man.
“Their enquiries remain ongoing.”
