A PERSON has died on the tracks of Newton-le-Willows train station this morning, Monday.

Police and paramedics raced to the scene at 6.15am to reports of a casualty.

Sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to Newton-le-Willows station at 6.15am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however a person has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’’

The incident affected trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester but the line has since reopened.
