A DATE for Mike Cooper’s testimonial match – The Wire’s only home pre-season game before the 2020 season – has been confirmed.

Wolves will take on Salford Red Devils at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Thursday, January 23, kick off 7.45pm.

The teams will compete for the 1895 Sports Challenge Cup, named after Cooper’s sports clothing company, and The Wire will wear a specifically designed testimonial shirt.

Cooper has also decided to allow all under 12s from the Warrington and Salford areas to attend the match free of charge.

“I’m really proud and thankful to the club and rugby league for organising my testimonial,” the prop said.

“I’ve been at this club since 11 years of age and have spent 90 per cent of my career here.

“I’m looking forward to a great year celebrating my career so far and to many more years to come.”

Cooper debuted for his hometown club in 2006 having played his junior rugby for Latchford Albion before moving to Australia to join St George Illawarra Dragons in 2014.

He returned to The Wire for the 2017 campaign and has made 219 appearances in primrose and blue thus far.

Following on from the testimonial match there will be a gala dinner at the Fir Grove Hotel on Saturday, February 22.

Plans are also in place to host a Comedy and Curry night at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Cooper’s chosen charity for his testimonial year is the Warrington Wolves Foundation while he will also be supporting the Supporters Trust Squadbuilder.
