LABOUR'S parliamentary candidate for Warrington North says she ‘cannot wait’ to get started on her campaign – but acknowledged concerns over not being from the town.

Charlotte Nichols, aged 28, will battle for the seat in the general election on December 12.

The London-based activist is Jewish, a trade union officer and a socialist.

But she is familiar with the area having grown up in the north west before moving to London for work and says she is excited to get the chance to stand in Warrington North.

“I know there has been a lot said about how I am a parachute candidate and I understand people’s concerns that I am not someone born and raised in Warrington,” she said.

“But I do not think of myself that way.

“I made my life here in the north west before moving to London a year ago for work. And I am excited to be coming back here.

“I am looking forward to getting out and meeting people here.

“I am happy for people to contact me and I will speak to them directly.”

Labour’s Helen Jones will not be standing in the election as she is retiring after 22 years as MP in Warrington North.

Since being created in 1983, the seat has always been a safe Labour seat and always held by the party.

Mrs Jones secured a majority of 9,582 in the general election in 2017.

Ms Nichols added: “I cannot wait to get started.

“I am very heartened by the support I have had across the party in Warrington and am hoping to be a fresh start.”
