TWO town centre pubs will be cutting their prices for one day only next week.
Wetherspoons’ Friar Penketh on Barbauld Street and Looking Glass on Buttermarket Street will slash the cost of food and drink by 7.5 per cent on Thursday, September 19.
The price drop will mark Tax Equity Day, which calls for a reduction in VAT paid by the hospitality industry.
The Looking Glass
Food and drink sold in pubs is subject to 20 per cent VAT, compared to supermarkets receiving a zero VAT rate on all food.
The Looking Glass manager Hayley Willis said: "We are proud to support the campaign to reduce the level of VAT within the hospitality industry.
"Customers coming to the pubs on Thursday September 19 will find the price of their food and drink is lower than normal.
"We are keen to highlight the amount customers could save if VAT in pubs was lowered permanently."
