A RESIDENT fears someone could be killed because of a ‘frightening’ bus route in Penketh.

Resident Hazel Moss, of Withycombe Road, has raised serious concerns over buses, including double deckers, using the road.

Warrington’s Own Buses confirmed the road has been used as a temporary diversion because of work taking place to replace Stocks Lane railway bridge.

Ms Moss – who labelled the route as ‘frightening’ – has raised the issue with Warrington Borough Council and Cheshire Police.

“I can’t see a reason why they are coming down here,” she said.

“The buses are forcing children on their bikes to go off the road – and cars parked up on the road are having to move.

“I just want these buses to stop coming down here.

“There is absolutely no need for it. They don’t need to use this estate.”

“I fear someone could get killed.

“It is a 20mph zone but some drivers are doing between 30mph and 40mph.”

Warrington’s Own Buses has responded to the concerns and insists there is no other suitable route.

A spokesman said: “Withycombe Road is a temporary diversion due to the Stocks Lane closure, with the ongoing works to replace Stocks Lane railway bridge.

“There is no other operationally viable route to take but we have assessed Withycombe Road and are assured it is a practical, albeit temporary, solution.

“As always, the safety of our passengers, residents and other road users, including cyclists, is paramount and with the support of fellow drivers, who we ask not to double park along the route, we are confident that we will be able to continue to use Withycombe Road safely.”
