THE funeral of Ernie Hutchinson, one half of a pair I referred to as the 'Dynamic Duo', took place on Tuesday.

He was a longstanding volunteer and a keen match angler who represented Warrington all over the country as part of our national squad.

I received regular catch reports from him following visits to our waters, usually accompanied by his fishing mate Dickie Wernham, and he was the first to catch in competition on the large lake at Sandiway.

He landed a big bream, taken on slider tactics, during the opening day to cement its position as a specimen fishery.

Graham Tuck and Mick Kenyon visited Worthington Reservoirs this week moved to the adjacent Arley Reservoir after catching nothing save for a single perch during almost five hours.

It was the right call, and by the time they both left at 4.30pm they had enjoying a cracking session with about 20lbs or so of fish each.

Graham fished a whip and maggot for a mix of roach and perch, while Mick was on a waggler for a similar mix that included a few chunky specimens.

Martin James took four-year-old daughter Amber to Ackers Pit on Saturday for her first fishing trip.

She set up his pole top kit for her, and she caught a small roach on first cast.

Her haul included eight roach to 14oz, plus a couple of rudd.

Dad managed to fit in a few casts with sweetcorn at about five metres over a handful of micro-pellets and snared a bream weighing 3-4lbs and a hybrid crucian.

Kevin Bell travelled for more than two hours to our fishery at Offa's Dyke, where he set up his tackle on the middle pool and fished a waggler with bread flake on the hook over a bed of groundbait.

He was hoping for a tench but was pleasantly surprised with five decent-sized chub - the best of those weighing 4-6-0.

Rod Fraser took first prize in our latest disabled and over 60s match on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Billinge with a net of pole-caught small roach weighing 4-14-0.

Keep sending catch reports to me by email to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk, or call me on 01928 716238.
