A NEW discount store has opened in Warrington to fill the vacant space on the high street left by Poundworld.

Bargain World, located inside Cockhedge Shopping Centre, opened last week and will soon be joined by a second store opening in Birchwood.

Terry Meekings, one of Bargain World's directors, said the shop has been a welcome addition to the shopping centre and the plan is to open about 80 stores across the UK.

He said: “This is the first Bargain World in Warrington. Feedback has been excellent with not having empty shops on the high street."

Warrington Guardian:

Bargain World, managed by Peter Donaldson, has 14 employees and Terry stressed that it is a discount retailer, not a single price one.

He explained: “I’ve worked in discount retail all my life. The single price retailer can’t survive in this market.

“The landlords and suppliers have been so supportive of us- you need this. Empty shops on the high street are not good for anyone.

Warrington Guardian:

“We felt that with the closure of Poundworld, there was a gap in the market.”

Bargain World will be hosting a family-friendly grand opening with face painting and a DJ on Saturday from 9am.

The first 100 customers will receive a free goody bag.
