A £50 million motorway service station including a hotel could deliver 250 new full-time jobs.

Extra MSA Group has announced two public consultation events to present their outline plans for a motorway service area (MSA) at junction 11 of the M62 in Birchwood.

If built, it would be home to a hotel, petrol station, walking zone and parking areas.

In addition to its primary purpose of improving road safety, the site is also planned to deliver a major economic boost.

The proposals will create around 300 construction jobs, up to 250 full-time permanent jobs and £1.2 million in annual business rate revenue when the facility is operational.

Andrew Long, chief executive of Extra MSA Group, said: “In addition to significantly improving road safety on the motorway network, this £50 million plus inward capital investment will also deliver new employment opportunities and a range of other important economic benefits for the locality.

“We would like to invite members of the public to attend our consultation events and have their say on the proposals.”
