THIS picture of an eight-year-old girl on World Book Day proved extremely popular on our website.

But what readers may not know is that not all of Aya Al Rawi's outfit was a costume.

The Grappenhall Heys Primary School pupil dressed as Carl from Disney's Up on Thursday.

The popular Disney character uses a walking frame to get around.

But Aya's walking frame is no prop – she needs it as she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was born.

He mum Yussur said: "She is a real girly girl and always wears her princess dresses.

"But she really got into the character of Carl and won the best dressed contest at her school.

"She is a real example of how you can embrace your disability.

"She is always happy and smiling. She used two different frames and this is one she uses all the time.

"Lots of people contacted me after seeing the picture and I just wanted to explain about Aya."

Aya, who receives help from the Stick n Step charity in Runcorn, also loves school.

Yassur added: "The school is exceptionally supportive and fantastic with her."
