A LONGSTANDING member of Warrington Visually Impaired People (VIP) was treated to a special 100th birthday party.

Stella Monks, who is originally from Leeds, turned 100 on Wednesday and celebrated with a surprise party at Fairfield and Howley community centre.

She now lives in Great Sankey but has been a member of Warrington VIP for more than 20 years where she likes to play dominoes on a Saturday.

The former Greenings Wire Work employee has lived in Warrington most of her life where she had one son with her husband, and now has two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Chair of Warrington VIP Geoff Settle said: "Our staff and volunteers put on a fantastic party for the Yorkshire lass.

"We picked her up on the mini bus and she had no clue what was to take place.

"To see the room beautifully decorated simply overwhelmed her but she thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.”

Warrington VIP are on the look out for volunteers, drivers and driver escorts who help members get on and off the mini buses.

They also have at least one vacancy for a trustee/director as one has just retired.
