THE Cockhedge Bridge is back open for pedestrians after being closed for a year.
A structural engineer has declared the bridge safe to use after a significant investment by owner, Bondbay Ltd.
The bridge, which crosses Scotland Road has been closed since September 2017, with the intention of removing the structure altogether due to its dilapidated condition, and replacing it with a new façade.
Discussions between the landowners Bondbay, Cockhedge Centre and council officers to seek an alternative crossing point and remove the bridge in the future are ongoing.

Adam Jude, director of James Peacock Property, who manage the Courtyard, said: “In the interest of safety, and while discussions continue with the Cockhedge Centre management team and council officers, Bondbay felt that they needed to invest in the bridge for safety purposes.”
Courtyard Shopping Centre is home to a number of retailers including Danny's Tattoo, Dolly Daydream, Ashleys Hairdressers, Netherworld, Glamour Nails, Pink Fizz cards, Shake and Vape, Ladbrokes, Groom and the East Orient Restaurants.
