SPARKS from cutting steel caused a fire at a building site off Manchester Road last night, Thursday.
Two fire engines were called just after 7.30pm reports of a fire in the open.
On arrival crews found a large amount of timber well alight at a building site by Padgate Lane and Marsh Street.
Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, which did not spread to a building nearby, and were in attendance for around 45 minutes.
The fire is believed to have been started accidentally as a result of sparks from cutting steel.
