WARRINGTON Record Fair will be celebrating its first birthday at the weekend with lots of special treats for supporters and vinyl fans.

Organiser John Beddows launched the event at Warrington Market a year ago on a trial basis but it quickly became a monthly event due to its popularity.

The milestone fair will feature a record shaped birthday cake, free bottles of beer from Warrington microbrewery Modern Day Monks and the chance to win 'golden envelope' prizes.

As usual, the event will feature around 20 traders who specialise in a particular field of music such as soul, jazz, funk or rock.

There will be around 20,000 records, including some rarities, costing anything from £1 to hundreds of pounds.

John, who runs a similar event in Sandbach, said: "I'm really pleased to be celebrating our first birthday in Warrington.

"The event has become well established within the record fair calendar.

"It is regarded as one of the best record fairs in the north west both by traders and record buyers.

"So to mark the milestone expect birthday cake, specially produced beer from Modern Day Monks brewery, surprises and prizes."

John, whose first record was Terry Jacks’ Seasons in the Sun, fell in love with music thanks to his mum Pat, a Beatles fanatic.

When not hosting record fairs, he works in student welfare but spent his early career stage managing bands like Echo and the Bunnymen, The Farm and China Crisis.
