On Sunday police released details of a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the murder.

Detectives, who believe the culprit was known to the victim, issued an appeal to trace 23-year-old Adam Brettle, from Warrington.

Following a manhunt by detectives, Brettle was taken into custody at 8.30pm on Monday. He has since been charged with her murder.

The 23-year-old appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday, but, due to the serious nature of the charge, the case has been referred to the crown court.

Police have confirmed no further action will be taken against a 43-year-old woman, from Warrington, a 45-year-old man, from Warrington, and a 67-year-old woman, from St Helens, who had been arrested earlier this week on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Since her death, more than £3,000 has been raised by the community to help cover the costs of Samantha’s funeral.

The JustGiving page, which aims to raise £4,000, was set up by Samantha’s friend Claire Cameron, who described the 29-year-old as ‘a beautiful soul inside and out’.

She said: “When somebody close unexpectedly leaves us, a piece of our heart is broken, on Saturday, November 24 at 11.40am, one of my closest friends was cruelly taken from us.

“This happened in the most horrific way imaginable and no-one should have to endure what she had been going through.

“Samantha was a beautiful soul inside and out and lived everyday for her two gorgeous boys and loving family and friends.”
