POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of drink driving after a crash involving a car and a tractor on Wednesday evening.
Widnes Road was closed near to Fiddlers Ferry following the accident at 6.30pm.
Firefighters used specialist equipment to cut the roof off the car and remove the casualty.
A spokesperson for Cheshire police said: "The collision involved a Citroen car and a tractor.
"The passenger of the car, a 76-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
"A 70-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.”
A spokesperson for North West abulance service said the female was taken to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool to be treated for injuries to her arm.
