WARRINGTON’S Own Buses is hoping to bring home a national award.

The transformation of the 20/21 to ‘the Pops’ in Orford and the South Warrington network with ‘the Cheshire Cat’ have caught the judges’ eye and seen the firm shortlisted in the UK Bus Awards next month.

Changes have been introduced across the town in the past 18 months, including new buses, new ways to pay through contactless and an app, some reduced fares, environmental improvements, better frequencies and new technology.

Managing director Ben Wakerley said: “It is brilliant for our company to be recognised at a national level for the improvements we continue to make.

“We have many headwinds against us, including the rising cost of fuel and the popularity of the private car, so as a business we are doing everything we can to raise the profile of the bus in Warrington and grow its use

“The shortlisting for the awards highlights that our municipal bus company is among the best bus companies in the UK”.

The UK Bus Awards will be held in London on November 20.
