TWO new council directorates will be created – and one scrapped – as part of changes expected to deliver £80,000 in savings, it can be revealed.

The move will see two operational directors take charge of two new directorates – economic growth, as well as transport and environment.

Andy Farrall, executive director for economic regeneration, growth and environment, will leave the authority when he retires in July next year.

Council chief executive Steven Broomhead believes the departure presents an opportunity to review the senior management structure.

The consultation over the proposals ended last week.

Following support at the Town Hall, the two new departments are anticipated to be in place by January, with the process of appointments taking place next month.

The two directors in charge of them will get a salary increase.

However, as Mr Farrall's directorate will be scrapped, from July, the authority is expecting to make £80,000 in savings.

A chief planning officer – who would be responsible for the local plan and development management team – could also be created in the future, although this is not due for at least two years.
