CALLS have been made to 'reassure' residents that the NHS in Warrington 'is not collapsing' during a meeting of health chiefs.

Dr Dan Bunstone resigned from his role as chairman of NHS Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group on Monday due to a conflict of interests.

It came less than a week after it was revealed that 16 of 24 GP practices in Warrington had signed a letter giving a vote of no confidence in the CCG’s leadership.

He and clinical chief officer Dr Andy Davies came under fire following the resignation of two GPs from its governing body – with one set to stay in post until October – and the perceived ‘unjust’ dismissal of another.

During today's health and wellbeing board meeting at the Town Hall, concerns were raised over the absence of Dr Davies.

Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, executive board member for public health and wellbeing, said: “I am just a little bit disappointed that Andy Davies isn't here today but there may be a very good reason for that, I don't know.

“I think with these issues it would be good to have him at the meeting.

“Considering the seriousness of things playing out outside of this room, it would give us more confidence that he was here himself.”

Cllr Ian Marks, a former council leader, added: "The public is confused about CCGs – even when informed, members of the public don't understand all of this.

"They will get worried about exactly what is going on.

“So, it is important that, as well as us knowing what is going on, some clear statement goes out to the public so that they don't need to worry.

"There are other problems with other providers in Warrington.

"The residents will get concerned.

"As much clarity as we can get the better on this, so the public are reassured that the NHS in Warrington is not collapsing."
