THE family and friends of mum-of-two Kirsty Mcdonald were humbled by the support after raising more than £4,000 at a fun day to fund her fight to beat cancer.

Crowds gathered at the festival opposite Warrington Sports Club on Walton Lea Road on Sunday with generous donations rolling in throughout the day.

More than £25,000 has already been raised after the 26-year-old was diagnosed with cervical cancer for the third time in 18 months.

All donations will provide financial relief to the much-loved mum as well as fund any treatment outside the NHS after her cancer was diagnosed as terminal.

Kirsty’s friend Charlotte Brophy thanked all those who took the time to attend the fundraiser and the many volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the event was a success.

She said: “We are so humbled by the support we received off everyone. It was overwhelming – we couldn’t have dreamt of it going that well.

“We could not have done this without you all.

“It wouldn’t have been possible and we cannot thank you enough for the support you have shown us on this unfortunate journey.

“The love and warmth we receive from you all and our little town of Warrington is enough to cure cancer itself.

“You keep our girl’s spirits high and when we all have zero energy – you are the ones who give us that extra push.”

Despite facing another setback just days before the fundraiser when she was rushed to hospital with sepsis, Kirsty battled against the odds to make sure she could attend the fundraiser organised in her name.

The 26-year-old, from Orford, was joined by her family including her two daughters Eva and Ella.

Her sister Jodie was also integral in organising the fundraiser which included live music, pony rides, market stalls and a bouncy castle.

The crew from Penketh Fire Station even braved a skip filled with cold water to raise funds.

Charlotte added: “With everything else that’s going on around Jodie, it is truly amazing how she pulled this off and still kept her head.

“She’s done us all so proud.”

While Kirsty is still undergoing treatment in the UK, her medical notes have been sent to Germany for a second opinion on her diagnosis.
