OVER the next few days we will be looking back at some of our favourite picture galleries from this year.
To mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS earlier this year, the Warrington Guardian delved into the archives to find dozens of fascinating photographs taken in and around the town’s hospitals over the past seven decades and beyond.
A number of pictures from Warrington Hospital, Warrington Infirmary and Winwick Hospital were revealed.
They show everything from patients recuperating on the wards and an operating theatre from the 1950s, to the demolition of the old Warrington Infirmary and poorly children receiving a festive visit from the mayor.
But more unexpected and unusual photos have also been revealed.
They include a glimpse inside Warrington Hospital’s library, Christmas dinner being cooked at Winwick Hospital, a woodwork shop at the Lovely Lane site and ladies having their hair done in hospital.
The photographs have been supplied by Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Culture Warrington and North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
