WARRINGTON Borough Council's decision to extend a £297,000-a-year James Lee House contract will come before the scrutiny committee after it was 'called in'.

On January 15, the executive board agreed to award the new contract, which provides supported housing for single adults at risk of homelessness at the site, on Brick Street.

But it has been 'called in' by Cllr Steve Parish (LAB – Chapelford and Old Hall), Cllr Amanda King (LAB – Great Sankey South) and Cllr Bob Barr (LD – Lymm North and Thelwall).

Cllr Parish said: "The call-in is not intended to stop the extension of the James Lee House contract in April.

"There are issues about the procurement process – and the impact of new legislation and funding arrangements – that need to be considered."

It will come before the scrutiny committee at the Town Hall next Wednesday.

The scrutiny committee can offer advice to the executive board, offer no advice, or refer the matter to the full council for advice.

The committee has no power to overturn an executive decision, or to substitute its own decision in place of the original.

The authority said a referral to full council for advice 'should only be used in exceptional circumstances where the committee does not feel it is within its remit to consider the call-in'.
