NEW plans to demolish a truck dealership in Culcheth in order to build houses have been submitted.

Developer Elan Homes has applied for planning permission from Warrington Borough Council for 15 homes on the site of Trucks 2 Go on Warrington Road.

The council’s development management committee had previously refused consent for a 16-home development on the site during a Town Hall meeting in August.

Planning permission for eight four-bedroom houses and eight five-bedroom properties was denied on the grounds of overdevelopment after councillors had expressed worries over parking and a lack of affordable housing.

Elan Homes’ new scheme forms two three-bedroom homes, three four-bedroom homes and 10 five-bedroom houses, plus a total of 51 car parking spaces on the one-hectare site.

In its new application, the developer said: “Due to the site’s location at the very edge of the settlement of Culcheth and the built nature and existing use for the sale of trucks, it is considered the proposed development will make a positive impact on the greenbelt and wider area.

“In summary, this carefully designed, sustainable and deliverable scheme should merit the support of Warrington Borough Council and therefore be approved without delay.”
