WELCOME to Paul Massey’s miniature world where Lego Stormtroopers run amok and the Incredible Hulk squares off against Clubber Lang.

The Stockton Heath resident started taking photographs of his son Bobby’s toys that he had left around the house as a hobby.

But his obsession with all things geeky and taking pictures of figures in unusual situations has now begun to take on a life of its own after he began to post the images on Facebook a year ago.

His website and gallery, ‘Toyography’, continues to grow in popularity and he is now beginning to get photo orders.

Paul, a former Bridgewater High student, said: “I posted them on social media and some people had a laugh with them so I thought maybe I can advance on this.

“It’s just become a hobby. It’s a geeky one but it’s fun. I wish I could make it full time. It would be like the dream job.”

Paul fits in photography around his job at fire research company Exova in Warrington and family life.

The 45-year-old, who uses a Nikon D3300, shoots the pictures in a purpose-built photography box or outside to incorporate natural elements. He has not had any formal training and has gradually picked up tips from YouTube videos, websites and forums.

But Paul’s eight-year-old son Bobby, a St Thomas CE Primary School pupil, is not so sure.

He said: “I have to pinch his toys now and again. He’s not happy about that but he absolutely loves the pictures. We both love Star Wars and go to the Marvel movies together. I have a rucksack that I take when we’re going out and it’s got a couple of lenses in and spare batteries – the usual stuff – but it’s also got a big compartment at the back so I’ll stuff that with all the toys.

“There’s no limits to it. I find myself shopping for figures and toys and my lad’s like: ‘Are you buying that for me?’”

Paul, a member of Warrington Guardian Camera Club, is now working on a new series of pictures with a macro lens for the ‘Punyverse’.

He added: “I’m working on new concept now with tiny model figures from model railways and things like that with the idea of little lives in a big world.

“There’s a large community of toy photographers around the world and quite a few blogs so if go hunting there are some really nice pictures. We try and get inspiration from one another.”
