MOMENTUM Warrington's chairman believes the group now has a 'strong and unified team fully supporting the Labour Party' following three resignations.

Three members resigned from the organisation, which is associated to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, at last Thursday's meeting.

But chairman Paul Smith believes members can help the party unite around Mr Corbyn's 10 pledges to 'rebuild and transform Britain'.

He said: "We are a nascent organisation and the constitution and membership criteria have only recently been defined.

"Thursday's meeting was in fact the first local meeting following the announcement of Momentum's new constitution and conditions of membership and the meeting voted to support these.

"We now have a strong and unified team fully supporting the Labour Party in winning elections and entering Government.

"We continue to support the democratically elected leader of the Labour Party in striving for a more open, member-led organisation, which can adopt the socialist policies so desperately needed by the vast majority of people in this country.

"On Saturday, we were out on the streets with our fellow Labour members, campaigning for adequate resources for our NHS in the face of the ongoing policy of privatisation, which is seeing the Conservatives picking off key services for corporate profit at the expense of the patient – aided and abetted by the Liberal Democrats and UKIP."
