WARRINGTON Wolves fans are being urged to chant and clap on the 36th minute of tomorrow night’s game with Wigan Warriors in honour of the club’s ‘most devoted fan’ who recently died at the age of 36.

Steve Goodwin died on August 24 days before he was due to watch his beloved team play at Wembley Stadium in the Challenge Cup Final.

The Wire mega-fan travelled to every game from his home in London, having previously lived in Golborne until he was 21.

His sister Linzi said: “Everyone has said he was the nicest person you could ever speak to – he’d have a bit of banter but you could speak to him about anything.

“He was the most devoted Warrington Wolves fan ever.

“Even though he lived in London he still went to all the games and if he couldn’t get to the game he was absolutely devastated.

“Steve passed away on August 24 and he had his Wembley tickets ready to go on the Saturday – my little brother went to Wembley because he said he had to do it in his name.

“It doesn’t feel real at the moment – everyone’s in utter shock really.

“When we bury our Ste’s ashes we’re sending the Wembley ticket with him.

“He couldn’t have been any more devoted to Warrington.”

Steve was a well-known figure among supporters and was a moderator on the RLFans forum under the name Wire Yed.

Warrington Wolves take on Wigan Warriors at the Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow night in a game that could see the Wire claim the League Leader’s Shield.

On the 36th minute, fans are being asked to chant ‘Stand Up For Wire Yed’ followed by a minute’s applause.

Linzi added: “I’ve never been to a rugby match before in my life but me and my mum, my dad, my little brother, my son and his wife are all going to the Warrington game so I just thought it would be nice so they could see how much he was loved.

“It would be unreal and he’d be so proud of how much everyone has pulled together.”
