WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat believes Labour politicians 'would rather argue about what the rules of their leadership contest should be' than focus on issues of national interest.
Mr Mowat's criticism comes after more than 50 Labour borough and parish councillors from across the town pledged their support to leadership challenger Owen Smith after signing an open letter.
He said: "While Conservative MPs have put their previous differences behind to govern in the national interest and make a success out of Brexit, Labour politicians would rather argue about what the rules of their leadership contest should be.
"It's also worth noting that while the Conservatives have chosen their second female leader, the Labour Party is yet again choosing between two middle-aged white men."
Warrington North MP Helen Jones is among the Labour MPs supporting Mr Smith, who is bidding to replace Jeremy Corbyn as leader.
