NETTO in Lymm is set to shut just eight months after it opened in controversial circumstances.
The Lymm branch of the Danish discount supermarket chain only opened its doors in November, but the company has announced the closure of its 16 stores in the UK.
Lymm’s Rushgreen Road store will continue to trade throughout July before closing in August.
Anger was sparked in the area last year when it was announced that Netto would be coming to Lymm, with residents calling for a more ‘upmarket’ supermarket.
The chain had also looked set to demolish the Sportsmans Arms pub in Penketh to build a store, a move that looks to be in serious doubt.
A partnership between Dansk Supermarked Group and Sainsbury’s saw the opening of 16 trial stores in the north of England including Lymm, but around 400 jobs are set to go nationally due to the closures.
