IT has been an incredibly tough six months for one Great Sankey couple but a fiance is now hoping to raise cash and awareness for a cause close to his heart by throwing himself out of a plane.

Last summer Kerry Vincent, who lives with her partner Adam Welch in Whittle Hall, discovered the 4.5lb cyst which had made her look five months pregnant was actually a cancerous tumour on one of her ovaries.

After enduring weeks of chemotherapy, the couple were then delivered the devastating news the cancer was back and more chemotherapy was needed.

The pair, who have been together for three-and-a-half-years, first noticed something was wrong in June last year when Kerry started feeling bloated before the 27-year-old's stomach started to grow and get larger.

Adam, 29, added: "It rang alarm bells and we knew something wasn't right but initially the hospital thought it was a cyst.

"We went away to Malta as that's where we were planning on getting married and people thought Kerry was pregnant.

"When we came back her health deteriorated and she became a lot more uncomfortable and couldn't eat properly before she was operated on."

It was then the couple found out the cyst was actually a tumour attached to Kerry's right ovary and at that point Adam admits everything went at a 'million miles an hour'.

Kelly battled the condition and finished her chemotherapy in November last year before the same symptoms started to reappear this month and the United Utilities employee could now see two lumps appear in her abdomen.

Treatment will run to the end of April meaning Kerry and Adam have been forced to cancel their Malta wedding this summer and instead plan to get married in the UK.

Project manager Adam added: "I took part in the dryathlon in September for Cancer Research but I decided I needed to do something a bit more substantial to try and match the bravery Kerry has shown during her treatment.

"She has always put much more of a brave face on things than I would and friends and family always say how strong and positive she has been going through it all.

"My fiancée is an amazing, strong and determined person and will continue to fight to get rid of her cancer."

Adam will be leaping 10,000ft from a plane during his skydive in Shropshire on April 2 and hopes to raise £1,000 for Target Ovarian Cancer as well as awareness for a condition often known as a 'silent' cancer.
