A COUNCILLOR has highlighted the success of a £6,000 gate on Silver Lane in Risley designed to combat unlawful encampments by travellers.
The gate was installed at the site last month following frequent problems for residents and the council as a result of travellers setting up camp on the land.
But Cllr Chris Vobe (LAB – Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft) believes the impact of it has been significant.
He said: "So far, the newly-installed barrier has been successful in deterring illegal traveller encampments on Silver Lane.
"It provides a dual function in that Biffa are still able to access the site and the work to turn the former landfill site into a nature reserve can continue, while also denying travellers the space they need to set up encampments."
