AN anonymous 'hacktivist' has claimed he will make Network Warrington's website unavailable as 'retaliation' for the organisation's increase to bus fares.
The anonymous hacker, who is known only as Grey, said he will be carrying out a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) on networkwarrington.com until a statement is made on why fares have increased.
A DDoS is described as an attempt to make a server or network unavailable to users.
It is believed that it is usually done by temporarily interrupting or suspending the services of a host connected to the internet.
The Warrington Guardian has repeatedly submitted requests for a comment to explain or justify the move one year on from a price hike of up to 65 per cent on some tickets.
It is now the fourth week attempts have been made but once again officials have not responded despite increasing anger and frustration from passengers.
Network Warrington's website is currently fully operating.
