One junction, three cyclists, and three ways of crossing it. I chose the Dustin Hoffman method.

I was going up Hilden Road and came to the junction with Blackbrook Avenue.

I had an 8.30am appointment at the Environment Agency in Birchwood, so it was a long ride for me from Widnes, and pretty busy on the roads.

As I came to the red light I did what I always do - I edged forward to the advanced start line for cyclists and waited.

Meanwhile, two kids in school uniform cylcled off the pavement and into the road (one while eating a chocolate bar), forced a car to break, then meandered across.

And a cyclist coming the other way went from the cycleway on the road to the cycleway on the pavement then rode over the pedestrian crossing.

Both got through before me.

Now clearly I'm being a bit of a good two shoes, and a bit of a 'Rainman'. I like to do things properly.

But my problem with those other riders is they give cyclists a bad name.

They are the reason why white van men seem to go out of their way to drive too close - I think they get annoyed at cyclist's apparent belief the rule of the road don't apply to them.

Either that, or Keely isn't on Page 3 of that day's Sun. (Whoever Keely, aged 19, from Bromley might be).

They may have saved themselves a couple of minutes.

But for people like me, who are trying to cycle on the roads and be treated with some respect by other road users, they are just creating problems.

Rant over.
