THE future of the site where an iconic children's slide at Walton Hall and Gardens stood before being removed last month remains unclear.
Warrington Borough Council is exploring several options to replace the spiroglyde which was taken from the play area on March 30 due to health and safety risks.
The slide had deteriorated over the years along with other equipment but the council is planning to improve the site over winter.
"Despite every effort being made to retain the much-loved slide, some parts had deteriorated to such a degree that they represented a risk to health and safety and were unfortunately beyond repair or uneconomic to repair," said a council spokesman.
"A number of options are currently being explored with regard to replacing the spiroglyde and other ageing items of play equipment.
"This uplift to the play facilities at Walton is planned to take place over the winter period."
A Facebook page set up to gather support to replace the spiroglyde with an exact replica was set up shortly after the removal and has so far gained 18 page 'likes'.
