WARRINGTON South’s Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition parliamentary candidate has spoken of his desire to banish the ‘disconnect’ between political parties and residents.
Cllr Kevin Bennett, who is also a council representative for Fairfield and Howley, resigned from the Labour party last month following a turbulent spell but is now focused on making change.
Although admitting the difficulty of the battle ahead, Cllr Bennett is hoping he can find a true bond with those in the constituency.
“Once again politicians have shown their disconnect between ordinary people and the mainstream parties - prominent MPs from both the Conservative and the Labour parties have been filmed offering their services for cash,” he said.
“Even if they are playing within the rules it shows contempt for the way the public view politicians today.
“I want to bring a new type of politics to Warrington South, open and honest, where MPs are accountable to their constituents, one where they become an MP to serve and not to let greed control what they stand for.
“I have pledged to only take an average working wage if I get elected and to spend as much time as possible in my constituency and not in the Westminster village.”
As May 7 edges closer, Cllr Bennett remains determined to increase awareness on the importance of fighting against Government cuts.
He added: “We have to make a stand against the pernicious austerity cuts.
“I would rather be a representative who stands firm on principle than one who has already thrown in the towel.”
