A 27-year-old woman was left shaken after two men attempted to steal her handbag at knife-point as she walked down a street in Orford.
The woman, who has not been named, was walking along St Peters Way in the direction of Battersby Lane when she was approached by two men on bicycles at around 6.15pm on February 10.
One of the men attempted to grab her handbag but, when the victim resisted, produced a knife and threatened her.
A Good Samaritan saw what was happening and rushed over to help the victim.
The two men rode off empty handed towards the Cockhedge Roundabout.
Police are now appealing for the witness, who is believed to be in his 30s, to come forward to assist officers with their enquiries.
He is described as white, about 5′9" tall with a regular build and spoke with a local accent.
He was wearing a dark coat with a grey scarf and had short brown hair.
DC Nick Talbot of Warrington CID said: "Fortunately the victim was not injured but she was left shaken by what had happened.
"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have witnessed anything significant to please come forward."
The first offender is described as white, in his mid-30s, about 5′9" tall with a regular build.
He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with a dark coloured jacket.
A description of the second offender is not available
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident should contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 736 of 10 February 2015.
