A GRANT programme has launched to tackle loneliness in deprived areas in the town.
Cash boosts up to £5,000 will be available to voluntary and community organisations interested in running projects which will benefit people over the age of 50 who live in Warrington.
Warrington Community Fund older people’s grant programme, which is ran by Cheshire Community Foundation and supported by Warrington Borough Council, will give priority to projects involving older people living in deprived or isolated neighbourhoods.
Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “These grants are for groups addressing priority needs in the community and for whom a small amount of money can make a really big difference.
"The foundation is keen to hear about innovative ideas that involve older people who are “hard to reach” as well as projects that encourage older people to share their skills, experience and knowledge with others.”
An information event will be held on February 25 from 10am to 12pm at The Gateway on Sankey Street.
