WARRINGTON'S answer to Banksy is getting couples in the mood for love with a Valentine's Day art dump.

Urban artist Vike, whose true identity is a closely guarded secret, will be leaving pieces of art in restaurants across the town between 6pm and 9pm on Saturday.

All the pieces will revolve around the theme of love and the people who find the one-off originals can take them away for free.

The art world has recently woken up to Vike's work with an Australian gallery snapping up a piece for £2,500 last year.

But Vike said she still enjoys giving away her pictures at charity shops and through art dumps and charity auctions as part of the guerilla art movement.

She added: "I've been creating art for more than a decade and when I first starting doing art dumps the pictures were left there for days on end or thrown in the bin.

"Now they aren't there for more than 30 seconds so it is lovely to see that people are actually going out of their way to obtain my work."

Vike creates her artwork using stencils and spray paint and has been inspired by Blek Le Rat, Banksy, Antony Micallef and Candice Tripp.

"Urban art is individual," she added.

"It depends on the artist but nine times out of 10 there is a message it conveys, whether political, grey areas or how the government treats us all.

"But for me it's important urban art should be there for people to make their own minds up about art and the message."

The urban artist is also giving away one of her Valentine's Day pieces through the Warrington Guardian.

And the piece of work has already been collected from our offices at 9.30am today, Friday.

Thanks for anyone who took part, but please don't come to collect the art now as it has already been claimed.
