WARRINGTON is gearing up for a possible cold snap this winter.
Council bosses say they have 1,800 tonnes of salt stocked up and ready for the winter.
To put that into context, some 25 to 30 tonnes can be used in one night between October and April.
There is 797km of highway in the town and 310km of that is prioritised by the council for gritting.
This includes main roads and bus routes.
But they may not be needed just yet. Forecasters are predicting a warmer than average November and December, although a white Christmas has not yet been ruled out.
