FIREFIGHTERS will be out on strike again this year as a row over pensions continues to rumble on.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union have announced a 24-hour strike starting at 9am on Thursday after describing Government plans to increase the pension age to 60 as ‘unachievable and dangerous’.
Bosses at Cheshire asked residents to be ‘extra vigilant’ during the industrial action.
Chief fire officer Paul Hancock said: “We do have plans and procedures in place that will enable us to continue to protect the communities of Cheshire during strike periods.
“However, we will have less fire engines available and so we would encourage everyone to take extra care both in the home and out and about on the roads, to keep themselves and their families safe.”
