LATCHFORD woman is facing three months living in a village without running water and little electricity.
Christie Allen will be heading out to Zimbabwe next month to work for the charity Restless Development.
The 22-year-old gave up her job to follow her dream of volunteering and applied for the placement through the International Citizen Service.
Christie, of Waterfront Drive, said: “I have always wanted to volunteer but it can cost up to £5,000 to apply. This is a Government funded scheme.
“I’ll be living in the country with no running water on £120 a month which the charity gives us and basic electricity which is not available 24 hours a day. I will also have limited contact with home too.
“I only found about I had been chosen about three weeks ago. I’m nervous and a little bit scared but very excited.”
While out there Christie will be working on some of the charity’s projects including the Girl Empowerment Movement, running gender clubs to promote equality.
And Christie will also be working on health scheme which try to raise awareness of HIV and Aids.
Now she is hoping to raise money for the charity with a fundraising target of £800.
And as part of that she will be tackling a bike ride from Southport to Warrington on May 18.
