RYLANDS Sharks had a better 2006 than they could probably have wished for.

Mark Forster's team, after being relegated the season before, finished the 2005/06 season as champions of North West Counties Amateur Rugby League Division One, bouncing back up to the Premier Division at the very first attempt.

The icing on the cake was Rylands winning the North West Counties Cup for the first time in their 110-year history, defeating Widnes Moorfield 23-6 in the final in Widnes.

Rylands won five rounds to reach the final in a competition for teams in divisions one to six.

Securing the league title and the cup in one weekend left Rylands with too much to do the following weekend in the semi finals of the Warrington knockout, losing out to their derby' rivals Latchford Albion.

This season Rylands have consolidated their position in the top flight and reached the quarter finals of the Lancashire Cup.
