TWO Hull KR fans have admitted hurling missiles onto the pitch during a game with Warrington Wolves.

Bottles were thrown at referee Tim Roby as Hull KR supporters became abusive over decisions during the Super League clash on July 21 at the Halliwell Jones stadium.

Marie Hayden, prosecuting at Halton Magistrates Court heard on Monday, said a bottle hit the official, A flare was also thrown onto the pitch.

Wayne Birjoo, aged 32, of Soxholm Road, Hull, admitted throwing a plastic bottle at 4.15pm during Wolves 34-6 win.

The court heard CCTV showed Birjoo hurling the missile, but it did not prove it was the one that hit the official.

A charge of assault was changed to throwing a missile onto, or near, a pitch.

Stephen Cooper, aged 20, of Uxbridge Grove, Hull, pleaded guilty to a public order offence on September 11.

He is due to be sentenced on September 24 On Monday, Birjoo said: “I totally apologise for my actions.

“I’ve got a child that goes to the games and I take him all the time.

“I’m not the sort of person that would throw a bottle at a referee.

“It wasn’t a full bottle and I don’t think it went onto the pitch.

“I hold my hands up because I did throw a bottle.”

The defendant, a self employed carpet fitter, was fined £230 by magistrates.

He will also pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £25.

Colin Parry, chairman of the bench, said: “Enjoy your rugby and behave yourself - I know that things get heated.”

Officials at Hull KR are currently deciding whether to impose permanent bans on the pair.

Temporary bans were imposed pending the result of court cases.

Following the incident the club released a statement condemning the fans’ actions.

In it they said: “The club were extremely saddened by the incidents at the Warrington game and cannot condone that kind of behaviour.”

“There will be no further comment made on this matter until after the court appearances of the two people in question.”
