KEEPING the grass green during the hot weather is Warrington Wolves groundsman Mel Jones.
As a servant at the club for the last 14 years, Mel has been feeding, watering and mowing sometimes twice a day to ensure the pitch is perfect while temperatures have been soaring.
He added: “It’s been difficult recently and we have been watching the weather closely and working in advance.
“There’s been a lot of hours spent watering it and timing it right for games.
“I’m quite pleased with it at the moment but you can never get complacent.”
To avoid brown patches, the turf has been grown a bit longer over the last few weeks but if predicted heavy rain falls this week it will be a different task once again.
Mel added: “We’re always looking ahead as sometimes there’s 15,000 groundsman in here on matchdays telling you if you have got it right or not!”
